I remember in the days of "Myspace" and the early Youtube videos, people were always shooting videos from above, which would make the neck thinner and the facial skin look smoother. But this is not new. Even Marilyn Monroe would tell people that she would put her face forward for pictures to accentuate her chin and slender neck. The old way is the classic way.
